1985: We Are The World By USA For Africa

Composed by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Recorded by United Support of Artists for Africa to raise money for famine relief. The song became the fastest selling single in American pop music history and the first to be certified multi-platinum. It won four Grammy Awards as well as  two MTV Video Music Awards, a People’s Choice Award and an American Music Award. Harry Belafonte (whose idea it was to record the song) received an American Music Award of Appreciation. One woman from Columbia, Missouri in the USA said “The record is excellent whether it’s for a cause or not. It’s fun trying to identify the different artists. It was a good feeling knowing that I was helping someone in need.” Genres: Gospel, Pop.
