Composed and recorded by Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill of American pop-music duo Boy Meets Girl. The song was inspired by a falling star that Shannon Rubicam had seen at one of Whitney Houston’s concerts. The duo did not initially consider recording it and instead submitted the song to record producer Clive Davis, hoping he would decide to use it on Whitney Houston’s next album. He rejected it, suggesting that it did not suit her. The song was then offered to and recorded by Belinda Carlisle for her 1987 album Heaven on Earth, at the insistence of her record label, but she disliked it and refused to include it on the album. Waiting For A Star To Fall reached No.9 in the UK when originally released. Used as the closing soundtrack to the 1990 film Three Men and a Little Lady, it re-entered the UK Chart in 1991.
