1987: La Isla Bonita By Madonna

Composed by Patrick Leonard, Bruce Gaitsch and Madonna for her third studio album, True Blue. The instrumental version of the song was first offered to Michael Jackson but he turned it down. La Isla Bonita translates from Spanish to English as The Beautiful Island. It is thought that San Pedro on the island of Ambergris Caye in Belize is where the song is referring to, though Madonna said during an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine that she did not know where San Pedro was. According to Madonna, the song is her tribute to the beauty and mystery of Latin American people. In the music video, Madonna portrays two characters – a young pious Catholic woman and a glamorous passionate Latina. The song was Madonna’s first No.1 single in France.

As well as being a talented music artist, Madonna is also a philanthropist through her Ray of Light charity. Find out more here: http://www.rayoflight.org.
