Composed by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield. First recorded by Tony Christie in 1971. The song is about a man travelling to Amarillo in Texas, USA to find his girlfriend Marie. The reason that Amarillo was chosen for the song was because it was the only place name that Neil Sedaka could think of that rhymed with willow and pillow. The song was to be titled Is This the Way to Pensacola, referring to Pensacola in Florida, USA, but Neil felt that Amarillo worked better than Pensacola. The song was used in 2005 to raise money for the charity Comic Relief, with a video released that featured Tony Christie with various celebrities. Comic-Relief/Is-This-The-Way.
