Composed by Albert Hammond, Diane Warren and Richard Hulle. Recorded by American rock band Starship and included on their second album, titled No Protection. The song was featured in the romantic comedy film Mannequin. It was songwriter Diane Warren’s first No.1 single. At the time, the song made Grace Slick (of Starship) the oldest woman (47 years old) to have a No.1 single in the USA. This record was later broken by American singer Cher in 1999, aged 52. In a radio interview, songwriter Albert Hammond said the idea for the song came from his impending marriage to his live-in girlfriend of seven years, after his divorce from his previous wife was finalised. In a conversation with Diane Warren he said “It’s almost like they’ve stopped me from marrying this woman for seven years, and they haven’t succeeded. They’re not gonna stop me doing it.” Diane Warren is an American songwriter. She made Billboard Magazine history in the late 1980’s when she became the first songwriter to have seven songs, all by different artists, in the Singles Chart at the same time.
