2009: I Dreamed A Dream By Susan Boyle

The music for for I Dreamed A Dream was composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg. The lyrics were written by Alain Boublil (in French) and Herbert Kretzmer (in English). The song is from the musical Les Misérables, which premiered on 24th September 1980 at Palais des Sports (now known as Dôme de Paris) in Paris, France. The musical is based on the French historical novel Les Misérables (first published in 1862) by French novelist Victor Hugo. Britain’s Got Talent contestant Susan Boyle chose the song for her audition on the show in 2009. Although Susan did not win the contest (she was a finalist competing against nine other contestants), she went on to achieve global fame. Her debut album I Dreamed a Dream is the best selling album worldwide of 2009. Susan was born in Scotland in the UK.
