1983: Girls Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

Composed and first performed by American musician Robert Hazard in 1979. Cyndi Lauper recorded her version in 1983 for her debut album, She’s So Unusual. The song became a global hit throughout 1983 and 1984. Genre: Dance-Pop. The music video cost less than $35,000 to make, with costs being kept down by using a volunteer cast and the free loan of the most sophisticated video equipment available at the time. The cast included professional wrestling manager Lou Albano in the role of Cyndi’s father while her real mother, Catrine, played herself. Also in the cast were Cyndi’s attorney, brother, musician Steve Forbert, manager, and quite a few secretaries from the record company. The video won an American Video Award for Best Female Performance and an MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
