He was treated like a hero by the townsfolk but he just wanted to go home, go back to the farm, and try to get back to the life that he’d led before. Bernie Taupin said that he wanted to write something that was sympathetic to the people that came home. The song won the composers the Ivor Novello Award¬†for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. It was featured in the 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Daniel reached No.1 in Canada and the USA. Chart-History. Bernie Taupin is an English lyricist, poet, and singer. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with Elton John, having written the lyrics for many of Elton John’s songs.
