1971: I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing By The New Seekers

Composed by Bill Backer, Billy Davis, Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway. The song originated as a jingle for a Coca-Cola advert. It was so popular that it was produced as a pop song but without the Coca-Cola branding. The most well known version, perhaps, is by The New Seekers. Coca-Cola waived royalties to the song and instead donated the first $80,000 in payments to the charity UNICEF. The 35mm footage on which the original commercial was filmed is held in a vault in the Library of Congress in the USA. The footage underwent restoration work in 2016.
