1983: I’m Still Standing By Elton John

Composed by Elton John and Bernie Taupin for Elton’s seventeenth album. The video was directed by Australian film director Russell Mulcahy and filmed in Cannes and Nice in France. It was meant to be filmed over two days but ran into extra time because footage from the first day of filming was destroyed when the director fell into the sea with it. In 2019, the original 16mm film negatives were re-scanned and the computer graphics were recreated, forming a new remastered version of the video. This version is used in the final scenes of the 2019 biopic about Elton, Rocketman, with Taron Egerton (who plays Elton in the film) rotoscoped in to recreate memorable scenes from the original video. It was also re-released standalone on Elton’s YouTube channel. The song originally reached No.1 in Canada and Switzerland. Chart-History. Bernie Taupin is an English lyricist, poet, and singer. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with Elton John, having written the lyrics for alot of Elton’s songs.
