1988: Where Do Broken Hearts Go By Whitney Houston

Composed by Frank Wildhorn and Chuck Jackson. Recorded by Whitney Houston for her second studio album, Whitney. Smokey Robinson originally wanted to record the song but the composers held it for Whitney Houston. The singer did not like Where Do Broken Hearts Go as she felt there was no special message to convey. In an interview in 2000, Whitney said that she “hated the song”. However, Arista Records CEO (Clive Davis) believed it would go to No.1 if Whitney recorded it, so she agreed. It became her seventh consecutive No.1 single in the USA, also reaching No.1 in Canada. Genres: Pop, R&B. Whitney remained perplexed by the song and its lyrics. Co-writer Frank Wildhorn later recalled that she sent him a letter asking “Where do broken hearts go? I have no idea”.
