1991: Coming Out of the Dark By Gloria Estefan

Composed by Gloria Estefan, Emilio Estefan Jr and Jon Secada. Recorded by Gloria Estefan for her concept album, Into the Light. It is also the second studio album released by the singer as a solo artist. The song was inspired after an accident in 1990 that nearly killed the singer, when an 18-wheeler vehicle rammed her tour bus. Coming Out of the Dark is dedicated to her husband, co-composer Emilio Estefan Jr. The title of the song came from a thought her husband had when he was travelling in a helicopter that was transporting Gloria Estefan from one hospital to another for surgery after the accident. The singer explained in an interview “My husband had been in one of the helicopters travelling from one hospital to the other. It was really dark and grey and he was traumatized. He got this ray of light that hit him in the face and he got the idea for Coming Out of the Dark”. The song reached No.1 in Canada and the USA. A Spanish-language version was recorded, titled Desde La Oscuridad, From the Dark.
