1979: In The Navy By Village People

Composed by Jacques Morali, Henri Belolo, Victor Willis. Recorded by Village People for their fourth studio album, Go West. It was the last Village People song to reach the Top 10 in the USA. After recording In The Navy, the actual United States Navy contacted Village People manager (Henri Belolo) to ask if it could be used in a recruiting advertising campaign for television and radio. Henri said yes it could (for free) on the condition that the Navy help them shoot the music video. It was filmed at the Naval Base San Diego on the deck of the USS Reasoner. In the end, the Navy decided not use the song, instead opting for the traditional Anchors Aweigh, which is the fight song of the United States Naval Academy and march song of the United States Navy. In The Navy was parodied by the Viking Pigs of The Muppets in 1980. In-The-Navy/The-Muppets.
