1969: Cupid by Johnny Nash

Composed and first recorded by Sam Cooke in 1961. The most well known version of the song, perhaps, is that by Johnny Nash in 1970, which is a reggae / rocksteady version of the song. It reached No.6 in the United Kingdom, and No.39 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in the USA. Sam Cooke was an American songwriter and singer. He died in 1964, aged 33, from a gunshot wound. He is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California, USA.
