1967: To Love Somebody by Bee Gees

Composed by Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. Recorded by the Bee Gees for their third studio album. The song was supposed to have been composed for American singer Otis Redding at the request of the Bee Gees Manager Robert Stigwood. Otis Redding was said to have loved songs by the Bee Gees. However, in an interview in 2001, Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees said that the song was composed for their Manager, Robert Stigwood. Barry Gibb explained: “He asked me to write a song for him, personally. It was written in New York and played to Otis Redding but, personally, it was for Robert. He meant a great deal to me. I don’t think it was a homosexual affection but a tremendous admiration for this man’s abilities and gifts.”
